Re: Can a standalone client call a VOIPo line
I have an earlier version of X-Lite, so I'm not sure how you would configure ver 3, but in my version you can set up "Direct Dial IP" for any SIP Proxy. Direct Dial IP supports connections that are not through proxies.
In fact, I can create a dummy SIP proxy that doesn't register to any outside provider. An outside SIP caller can then reach this softphone by entering the appropriate address. I like this version of X-Lite because it supports something like nine different providers. I believe it is version 2.0 found here: http://aln.list.ufl.edu/voip/ , but I didn't actually download it from that site -- I got it years ago.
Edit: You can find "Direct Dial IP" in the menu under System Settings/SIP Proxy/ and then you would have to set up the dummy proxy. The Direct Dial IP setting isn't immediately visible when you go to the proxy. You need to scroll down.
