Thread: Connect Network Device to HT-502 LAN Port??

Default Connect Network Device to HT-502 LAN Port??

Hello-----I've got my HT-502 in bridge mode and installed behind my Netgear router. The network cable from a LAN port on my router is connected to the WAN port of the HT-502. The HT-502 works well with no problems.

Since I've run out of LAN ports on my router, I'm thinking I can connect another network device to the LAN port on the HT-502, and since I've set it to bridge mode, the network device should pull an IP address from my router and work as if the device was connected directly to a LAN port of my router.

However, it doesn't seem to be working that way. My network is not "seeing" the device connected to the LAN port of the HT-502. Am I overlooking something here?

Thanks, in advance, for your suggestions and help!

Gee, for more LAN ports, just get a $20 switch.

Agree. Buy an 8 port switch and for best performance, put all network devices on switch.

Guys-----I've got several switches, and using one is certainly an option. However, for one more LAN connection, I'm trying to prevent adding yet another device to my network.

Any answers to the original question?

    Thanks,

Basic question.. Did you restart the ATA? I assume you did. Maybe try to turn off the DHCP server just in case. I don't have a HT 502 to check with.

Thanks for the reply-----indeed, I rebooted the HT-502, and I think I disabled the DHCP server, but I'll need to confirm that when I get home tonight.

    Thanks again

I don't think the LAN port will pull an IP from your router since your ATA is behind the router. One router port cannot have two addresses attached to it. You may try enabling DHCP in the ATA, and let the ATA give it an address, that's the only way I see it possibly working.

Thanks, voipinit, I'll try that. However, I thought that by having the ATA in bridge mode, the device connected to the LAN port would pull an IP address from the router.

In the end, I might have to bite the bullet and add the switch.

    Thanks again for the reply.
